hey thanks for comments! They are insightful and I do agree on most of it. I took a grad course on Statistical Computing this year and we use Python basically. For efficiency, we wrapped C++ into Python with Cython. So at least our stats department is using Python. Some guys I know in CS dept use Python too. But our CS dept is not focusing on scientific computing, so it is just one example.
Yes Python will be definitely muh slower, even with libs like Numpy.
