Work Experience
Research Assistant
National Center for Scientific Research Demokritos• May 2021 - August 2021
Designed and developed a distributed graphical human-computer collaborative interface on Unity3D (C#) using Rider and Blender inspired by a publication at IROS 2020. Implemented and tailored an actor-critic reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm using pytorch that learns realtime collaboratively with a human. Implemented ROS wrappers for all of the components in the pipeline to make it easily transferable to other applications. Analysed agent’s convergence and proposed an offline gradient allocations mechanism that reduces human engagement by 28%.
Research Assistant
National Center for Scientific Research Demokritos• September 2019 - December 2019
Retrained a multi-attention transformer model (BERT) using tensorflow on Pycharm on a greek corpus dataset for chatting application on a Pepper robot. Designed and developed a human 3D pose tracking system on ROS using OpenPose for detecting human 2D skeleton and projecting it in the 3D space using an RGB-D camera (RealSense). Collected Data from human subjects and evaluated the accuracy of the system.
Machine Learning Intern
Toshiba Research Europe Limited• January 2019 - May 2019
Developed denoising and variational deep autoencoders on tensorflow using Pycharm to obtain compact and robust low dimensional representations of belief states for statistical dialogue manager systems. Conducted extensive experimentation on a gpu cluster using slurm. Proved that the proposed representations lead to performance gain up to 63% against the baseline. Implemented a sample-efficient policy-based RL algorithm, namely LSPI, which in combination with the above representations result in 76% performance gain against the baseline.
