Dynamic programming languages, such as JavaScript, Python and Scheme, are becoming increasingly popular due to their rapid software development cycle. Our research group, the Dynamic Languages Team (DLT) is currently designing and implementing Python and Scheme compilers which serve as test-beds for exploring and evaluating new implementation approaches (Twopy and Gambit). Gambit is our flagship contribution, used in a wide variety of academic and commercial projects in healthcare, video games, web services, cryptocurrencies, etc. Through these projects we are investigating a variety of research topics in dynamic language implementation including program analysis, program instrumentation and debugging, translation to high-level languages, combining Ahead-Of-Time (AOT) and Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation, implementation of objects, continuation-based parallelism, distributed computing, compilation for parallel processors, and advanced garbage-collection algorithms (parallel and generational GC).
