Instructor
Coding Dojo•  August 2019 - March 2020
• Taught data structures, algorithms, and three different full-stack curricula in Python (Django), Java (Spring Boot), and JavaScript (MEAN / MERN). Teaching was definitely a different experience because it challenged me to fully understand topics and efficiently break them down for others to learn. • Spent extra time encouraging students to learn beyond the curriculum. Among the students I helped, a few were able to acquire full-time positions at big companies as junior or mid-level Software Engineers.
Software Engineer
Self-Employed•  August 2017 - March 2020
• Led development at BoardSeatMeet to create an MVP using Angular, Firebase, and GCP. The app consisted of a real time chat, resume upload, and scheduling with Google Calendar. During this experience I learned to use tools like Jira and improve my overall communication skills across cross-department teams. • Developed a UI demo for embedded touch devices using HTML / CSS / JS to showcase touch breakpoints on mobile devices. Due to memory constraints, I couldn’t use any libraries so I had to use vanilla JavaScript and touch event listeners to track finger movement. • Created React Native components for a social media platform. I had to read through an existing codebase in both native Android and iOS to develop an abstract set of components to convert the codebase into React Native. The shared components were then used to speed up the conversion of mobile app to web app using React. • Created a UI in Angular zooming and cropping features for an internal hardware inspection GUI. This was my first exposure to using a strict linter and it was particularly tricky since the linter didn’t accept ‘any’ as a type nor did they allow possible null values to be introduced to the DOM.
Junior Software Engineer
EPAM Systems•  October 2019 - January 2020
• Created an ecommerce backend with Django REST Framework with TDD. Added a simplified front-end using Angular. Using TDD was challenging at first, but the more I incorporated it, I started to write cleaner code.
Mobile Developer New Grad
Xero•  June 2019 - August 2019
Energy Services Specialist
Commercial Energy•  December 2017 - August 2018
• I taught myself how to use VBA in Excel because I noticed the report generation was inefficient due to the repetitive nature of the process. I then created VBA scripts and Excel templates to automate and optimize generation of reports for the sales team. • Generating a typical report took an hour, but with the VBA scripts in place, it took 6-10 minutes instead. I was then tasked to improve all operations involving Excel and SQL. • I recognized the benefits of programming and I decided to accelerate my learning at a coding bootcamp to make the transition into software engineering.
