Prompt Engineering

Prompt engineering refers to the practice of designing and formulating prompts, queries, or instructions to elicit specific behaviors or responses from natural language processing models, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs).

This competency area includes an understanding of the concepts of understanding language models, natural language processing (NLP), task-specific expertise, creative writing, understanding model biases, experimentation skills, feedback analysis, dynamic prompting, fine-tuning parameters, context management.

Key Competencies:

  1. Understanding Language Models - Understanding of the architecture, capabilities, and limitations of the specific language model being used.
  2. Natural Language Processing (NLP) - Understanding basic NLP concepts, such as tokenization, syntactic structures, and semantic relationships for crafting effective prompts.
  3. Task-Specific Expertise - Knowledge of the task or domain for which the language model is being used helps in crafting prompts that align with specific requirements.
  4. Creative Writing - Ability to design inputs that lead to interesting, relevant, and contextually appropriate outputs from the language model.
  5. Understanding Model Biases - Knowledge of potential biases in language models and considering them when formulating prompts to avoid unintended biases in responses.
  6. Experimentation Skills - Understanding of conducting A/B testing or experiments to iterate on prompts and assess their impact on model behavior and output quality.
  7. Feedback Analysis - Ability to analyze and interpret model outputs based on different prompts, incorporating user feedback to refine and improve prompt strategies.
  8. Dynamic Prompting - Ability to dynamically adapt prompts based on the evolving context of the conversation or user interaction
  9. Fine-tuning Parameters - Understanding of fine-tuning parameters to adjust the behavior of the language model according to specific requirements.
  10. Context Management - Ability to manage context shifts during a conversation to ensure continuity and coherence in the generated responses.
