One good reason for sorting the array, even if it adds another iteration, is that a sorted array allows us to do all sorts of other nifty things quite easily and without much effort, for example removing duplicate entries. Although possible without sorting, code readability wise, working with sorted data is (especially from a human perspective) often much easier!
