Get ready for SoDA's 10th Annual Code Challenge this Spring! ☀️ Put your problem solving and coding skills to the test and see how they hold up while under pressure in this competitive algorithmic programming competition. This is an in-person only, individual only, proctored competition, open to all ASU students.

Rules

  • The creator of this contest is solely responsible for setting and communicating the eligibility requirements associated with prizes awarded to participants, as well as for procurement and distribution of all prizes. The contest creator holds HackerRank harmless from and against any and all claims, losses, damages, costs, awards, settlements, orders, or fines.

  1. Competition Objective: Participants are tasked with solving a set of coding problems within the specified time frame of 3 hours, starting from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 7.
  2. Eligibility: Open to individual participants only. Collaborative entries are not allowed. Participants must be actively-enrolled students at ASU (at least 1 credit hour).
  3. Registration: Participants must register for the competition before Sunday, April 7 at 11:00 AM.
  4. Coding Environment: Participants may use any programming language supported by the HackerRank platform and any development tools, unless specified otherwise.
  5. Materials: Internet access will be allowed for access to the HackerRank platform and for reference purposes only to common online computing and mathematics knowledge bases.
  6. No external assistance is permitted.
  7. Usage of generative code-writing AI is not permitted.
  8. Submission Guidelines:
    • Code must be submitted via the HackerRank platform before the deadline.
    • Late submissions will not be considered for judging.
  9. Judging Criteria include but are not limited to passing test cases, memory efficiency, and time efficiency.
  10. Prohibited Actions:
    • Plagiarism or use of pre-written code.
    • Collaboration with other participants or receiving external help.
    • Use of any forbidden tools or resources as specified by the organizers.
  11. Disqualification: Any violation of the rules will result in immediate disqualification.
  12. Amendments: The organizers reserve the right to make amendments to the competition rules. Participants will be notified of any changes.

Scoring

  • Each challenge has a pre-determined score.
  • A participant’s score depends on the number of test cases a participant’s code submission successfully passes.
  • If a participant submits more than one solution per challenge, then the participant’s score will reflect the highest score achieved. In a game challenge, the participant's score will reflect the last code submission.
  • Participants are ranked by score. If two or more participants achieve the same score, then the tie is broken by the total time taken to submit the last solution resulting in a higher score.
