About

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the first CSSA Community Challenge!

We'll be running a series of fortnightly challenges to let the community practise their programming and problem solving skills, and to see who's the best.

This challenge focuses on problem solving and algorithms, future ones will have different focuses such as AI and open-ended challenges, so stay tuned after this ends for more.

We've also got prizes up for grabs from our awesome sponsors, you can see the details for this below!

To complete the challenge, there are three different puzzles to solve, each of increasing difficulty. You can do however many or however few you wish, and prizes don't require all three to be solved to have a shot at free stuff!

Remember to check out the rules and join our discord server to discuss the challenge and let us know what you think! https://cssa.club/discord

  • You can attempt as little or as many problems as you wish.
  • Any solutions must be original, and cannot use external solutions or write-ups to aid you.
  • You can use any language you wish. Yes that includes Whitespace and LOLCODE. Yes I'm going to regret saying this.
  • Feel free to discuss problems in the CSSA Discord server, but do not post write-ups or solutions until the challenge ends. If you are posting any hints or similar, please use a spoiler tag to avoid ruining the challenge for others who do not wish to see hints. (This also applies to solutions after the challenge ends, incase people are doing it retrospectively.)
  • To recieve prizes, you must be attending ANU or a member of the ANU CSSA, you can register at https://members.cssa.club/register.

Scoring

  • Each challenge has a pre-determined score.
  • A participant’s score depends on the number of test cases a participant’s code submission successfully passes.
  • If a participant submits more than one solution per challenge, then the participant’s score will reflect the highest score achieved. In a game challenge, the participant's score will reflect the last code submission.
  • Participants are ranked by score. If two or more participants achieve the same score, then the tie is broken by the total time taken to submit each solution from the time you open them.
