About

Welcome to the UPE programming competition!

Make sure that you have selected the competition track appropriate to your course and programming experience (This is the HARD track). The easy track is for less experienced programmers, who have not taken Intro to Algorithms. Knowledge of Data Structures is helpful, but not required. The hard track is for seasoned students of Computer Science, who have faced NP-Hard problems, learned techniques in Algorithms, and faced the terrors of Data Structures. The following problems each start with a description, the input and output specifications, and a sample input and output. You must bring to bear your programming skills and algorithmic knowledge to overcome each of these hurdles. You will win the admiration of your friends, peers, and have a chance to win prizes! Best of luck!

Prizes

The first, second, and third placers in each of the two tracks will have their pick of the following, first place first serve (FPFS): - SanDisk 120GB SSD - Samsung 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Duo - Vilros Raspberry Pi 3 Media Center Kit - Audio Technica ATH-SJ11 Audio Headphones - NexGadget Bluetooth in-ear Earbuds - Amazon Echo Dot

Rules

  • The creator of this contest is solely responsible for setting and communicating the eligibility requirements associated with prizes awarded to participants, as well as for procurement and distribution of all prizes. The contest creator holds HackerRank harmless from and against any and all claims, losses, damages, costs, awards, settlements, orders, or fines.
  • Code directly from our platform, which supports over 30 languages. Learn more here.
  • Don’t copy all (or most) of your code from Stackoverflow (etc)
  • Prizes will be first-win, first-serve
  • Feel free to come up and ask questions
  • Don’t do the ‘onboarding’ thing on HackerRank
  • If you can’t find a seat, head to 104
  • Make sure you are using the correct language (should be the menu on the top right of the online editor)
  • There are unlimited tries -- i.e. multiple submissions won’t hurt your score
  • You get points even if you don’t pass every test case -- if you think the test cases are wrong tell us and move on, we’ll look into it
  • There are memory and time limits -- if a testcase fails, that might be why

Scoring

  • Each challenge has a pre-determined score.
  • A participant’s score depends on the number of test cases a participant’s code submission successfully passes.
  • If a participant submits more than one solution per challenge, then the participant’s score will reflect the highest score achieved. In a game challenge, the participant's score will reflect the last code submission.
  • If a participant submits more than one solution per challenge, then the participant’s score will reflect the highest score achieved.
  • Participants are ranked by score. If two or more participants achieve the same score, then the tie is broken by the total time taken to submit the last solution resulting in a higher score
