Simple, format is actually a method. You see, in Python EVERYTHING is an object without you even know it. That's kinda the reason is easy to work and why is so different from your other languages. Of course, that also means some loss in performance, since Python is not as lo-level as grampa C, daddy C++ and big brother Java.
