    The LIMIT clause is used to specify the number of records to return. Here we just want to return only 1 record, that's we use limit here, otherwise the query will return all the city names under the written conditions.

    select city,length(city) from station order by length(city) asc, city asc limit 1;

    select city,length(city) from station order by length(city) desc, city asc limit 1;
